With its distinct noir tinge and world of masterfully illustrated characters, Blacksad is a series that I always welcome returning to. After reading the first volume years ago, I’m still hooked on this unique comic that delivers something rare in the genre. Now in its seventh volume, the series dives deeper into Blacksad’s latest case, pitting him against one of New York City’s most powerful businessmen. With time running out and Weekly caught in a dangerous bind, this latest installment has all the makings of another classic in the series. After a two-year wait since the English release of They All Fall Down Part One, we finally see the thrilling conclusion in Part Two.

Overview of Blacksad: They All Fall Down Part 2
Lewis Solomon, New York's self-proclaimed "master builder," continues his machinations for absolute power and fame in the city. But as his most ambitious project nears completion, skeletons begin tumbling out of closets.
Blacksad must follow the trail and track the ruthless hitman on Solomon's payroll. But with Weekly framed for a murder he didn't commit, our feline detective faces his most dangerous case without his trusty sidekick.
Review
As expected from Blacksad, this volume oozes charm and atmosphere from every panel. Juanjo Guarnido’s art is nothing short of incredible. From the first page, his detailed illustrations and masterful coloring draw you into an equally beautiful and dangerous world. The immersive quality of this anthropomorphic world is impressive as each page is crafted with such artistry that scenes of casual street conversations feel just as alive as the bombastic, action-packed moments.
Picking up right where Part One left off, Part Two feels like a return to the series’ gritty noir roots as we follow Blacksad through the city, piecing together clues in the seedy underbelly of New York. While each character in this tale plays a unique role, it’s the villains who truly steal the spotlight in this latest volume. With Solomon as the ruthless businessman and The Gull as a cold-blooded hitman with a tragic backstory, they add plenty of compelling layers to the story, making this one of the series’ most memorable stories. Solomon’s character, in particular, stands out as a villain whose arrogance and power make him a perfect foil for Blacksad. By the end, I was eager to see how their fates would unfold.
But while the story is thrilling throughout, the pacing does occasionally feel uneven. Some plot developments unfold at a lightning pace, which at times makes certain moments feel slightly unearned. Despite this, the story builds to a climactic finale that feels grand in scope, outshining previous adventures. Also, while the two parts stand well enough individually, I hope to see the whole story together in one volume one day. Minor pacing issues aside, the whole They All Fall Down saga is among the best in the series, with a story that captivates from start to finish.
Final Thoughts
Blacksad: They All Fall Down Part Two is a triumph of storytelling and artistry. As with previous volumes, it seamlessly blends noir grit with the unique charm of its anthropomorphic world. Complex characters, a gripping plot, and breathtaking visuals combine to create an experience that stands out on today’s comic shelves. Though the pacing is occasionally brisk, it does little to detract from the story’s overall impact, which not only meets but often surpasses the high standards set by previous volumes.
For fans of the series, this is a must-read that delivers so much of what makes Blacksad such an incredible series. For newcomers, there’s no better time to start—pick up Parts One and Two for a thrilling introduction to this unforgettable world. Blacksad is truly a gem in the world of comics, and whichever volume you choose, you’re in for an incredible journey.
