Lore & Loadout: Captain America in Marvel Rivals
Get to know more about Marvel Rivals' symbol of hope and liberty, Captain America, through his legendary history in comic books.

He’s the original Super-Soldier: a living symbol of perseverance who can shrug off a barrage of blaster fire, hurl a ricocheting Vibranium shield through an enemy squad, and rally teammates with un-shakeable resolve. On the battlefield of Marvel Rivals, Captain America fills the Vanguard slot—soaking damage up-front while shepherding allies forward with speed and bonus health.
Yet Cap isn’t a stationary bunker tank. With Leading Dash into Fearless Leap and his melee-to-shield-throw Sentinel Strike chain, he excels at hit-and-run dive play, disrupting squishies before resetting behind cover. Mastering his rhythm of block → dash → slam → shield ricochet turns the First Avenger into a mobile frontline menace.
Who Is Captain America?
Captain America first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (1941), created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. As one of Marvel’s earliest heroes, Cap was originally introduced as a patriotic symbol during World War II, inspiring soldiers and citizens alike.
Steve Rogers was propped up as the everyman: a frail young man with a strong heart and determined to enlist and fight for his country. After being selected for the Super Soldier Program, he was transformed into the perfect human specimen, gaining enhanced strength, endurance, and agility. Armed with his iconic shield, he became America’s greatest hero.
Though originally a wartime hero, Captain America’s legacy expanded beyond the battlefield, making him a timeless symbol of courage, leadership, and unwavering moral conviction.

Captain America’s Story in Marvel Rivals
After awakening in the 2080s and fighting against Doom 2099, Steve Rogers was displaced into the present due to the Timestream Entanglement. Seeking allies to prevent his dystopian future, he joined the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, where T’Challa and Shuri provided him refuge and a new Vibranium shield. Tasked with gathering warriors from across time and space, Steve rescued Hawkeye and Winter Soldier from a collapsing Hydra base. However, after Bucky was injured, he awoke in Wakanda’s med bay under the influence of a mysterious dark force, causing his new cybernetic arm to mutate with organic tentacles. As he lost control, Steve and Clint fought to restrain him, leading to a high-stakes battle in the spaceport.
With Shuri’s help, they devised a plan to reset Bucky’s corrupted arm using a precision shot from Hawkeye’s Kimoyo bead-infused arrow. Steve kept Bucky distracted long enough for Clint to land a perfect shot, disabling the mutation and restoring his friend’s control. Though shaken, Bucky agreed to let Shuri study the unknown force within him. As they returned to Wakanda, Steve reassured his old friend that he would never face his struggles alone again. With new allies by his side, Captain America embraced his role in this fractured timeline, ready to fight for the future once more.
