New Creator-Owned Comics This Week: September 20, 2023
It's time to check out the creator-owned comics we're most excited about reading this week from Image Comics and BOOM! Studios!
Hey, listen! It’s time to talk about comics we’re excited about this week! Both Image Comics and BOOM! Studios are releasing some of their biggest titles this week, and we couldn’t be more hyped. It was honestly difficult to narrow the list down to just ten. But like I always say, it’s a good problem to have when there are just too many great comics to read. From new series debuts to thrilling story arc finales and ongoing hits, this week has everything you need to get your fix of incredible creator-owned comics. So let’s get into my picks!
Saga #66
By Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
While it seems like Alana, Hazel, and Squire made it out safe and sound, you gotta remember that the hitman trailing them has finally caught up. If this issue is supposed to be even bigger than the last one, then we’re in for a wild ride of a story arc finale.
Something is Killing the Children #33
By James Tynion IV, Werther Dell'Edera, and Miquel Muerto
It looks like Erica is finally catching a break as some help arrives in Tribulation. Except it’s not so clear whose side exactly they are on. Either way, Erica is going to need all the help she can get while she’s got both the Duplicitype and the bloodthirsty Cutter to deal with. It’s all leading up to a big and bloody confrontation in that small town in the middle of nowhere.
Nocterra #16
By Scott Snyder, Tony S. Daniel, and Marcelo Maiolo
It’s full speed ahead for this action-packed story arc finale! It’s up to Val, Em, and the Ferrymen to charge headlong into the forces of darkness and save humankind from total blackout. The winner of this no-holds-barred showdown will hold the fate of the world in their hands.
Grim #13
By Stephanie Phillips, Flaviano, and Rico Renzi
It’s not easy being a grim reaper, especially when you’re on the bad side of those in charge of the Underworld. Eddie, Jess, and Marcel each must relive the pain from their mortal lives in horrifying detail. That’s before coming face-to-face with Annabelle and the monstrous parasite that’s bonded with her.
Fishflies #2
By Jeff Lemire
So begins the story of Franny Fox and her strange, monstrous visitor. But where will their adventures along Belle River take them? While the two new friends are off wandering around, the rest of the town continues their search for the person who shot the young boy Paul DuPuis. Little do they know, something unimaginably horrific has already happened to the missing fugitive.
The Bone Orchard Mythos: Tenement #4
By Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino, and Dave Stewart
The seven tenants must confront their darkest fears as they crawl deeper into their strange apartment building. Long-time collaborators Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino continue to weave the twisted tale of what is shaping up to be the most essential piece in their Bone Orchard Mythos universe.
Big Game #3
By Mark Millar and Pepe Larraz
One by one, the heroes of Millarworld are killed by the hands of Nemesis. The man with the bloody white cowl continues his rampage with Kick-Ass, Hit Girl, and Huck locked in his sights. It’s up to the Kingsman organization to try and stop the crazed lunatic before the murders get out of hand. Earth needs its heroes more than ever against this merciless villain.
Kaya #11
By Wes Craig, Jason Wordie, and Andworld
Kaya’s latest story arc comes to a thrilling conclusion this week! Kaya finally catches up with Jin and his captors. The problem is that she arrives just as when a bloody battle between the Mutants and Robots erupts. Kaya must race against time to save her little brother. But is the boy the same as he was now that he’s returned from his journey through the dark realm?
Rare Flavours #1
By Ram V. and Filipe Andrade
Even demons have big appetites for fine dining. Ram V. and Filipe Andrade, the team behind the incredible “Many Deaths of Laila Starr,” reunite for a deliciously devious tale that blends food, fantasy, and mythology. This is the story of Rubin Baksh, the Rakshasa demon who comes down to earth with the dream of becoming the next Anthony Bourdain.
Hexagon Bridge #1
This new miniseries follows the journey of a young girl who travels into a parallel dimension to rescue her missing parents. With her clairvoyant powers and sentient robot Staden, Adley must navigate through a strange dimension where the landscapes and architecture are in a constant state of flux.
