Irinbi creates a classic romance fantasy story with a twist, and Grrr brings it to life with their amazing art. It’s an enjoyable rofan (romance fantasy) webtoon full of action that will leave you wanting more.

“The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine” is a transmigration (isekai) romance fantasy (rofan), and of course, I had to read it. As you should know by now, I’m a big reader of rofan webtoons. With its adorable main leads and entertaining plot, this series has easily become one of my favorite current reads. So, let’s continue down below to learn what this webtoon is about and what makes it great!

Overview

On the outside, Ailette Rodeline is a child prodigy with many skills. But on the inside, she is an adult who transmigrated after her premature death in the modern world. Ailette inhabits a dark romance fantasy novel where the world is destined for destruction with the spurring of dungeons and demons. Tesilid, the novel’s male lead, will eventually save the world, but that won’t matter to Ailette as she’s merely a poor side character who may die before then. So, Ailette must find a way to survive until the end. Lucky for her, she’s got gods on her side.

Review

One of the first things you’ll notice about the webtoon is how great the art is. Considering I have a terrible habit of choosing webtoons to read based on their art first, this one grabbed me with how aesthetically pleasing it looks. I can’t help that I’m drawn to pretty art. To my delight, this webtoon has an engaging plot to go with its incredible art. Central to the story of “The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine” is Ailette’s training to defeat demons and clear dungeons along her journey. It’s refreshing reading a transmigration story with a strong female lead who can fight demons and clear dungeons. Ailette is a bonafide badass with a comically adorable obsession for obtaining loot and skill points to get stronger. Her diehard personality is a welcome contrast to the sometimes bland female leads in other rofan webtoons. With such a fantastical plot in place, there is always something exciting happening in the story. Creators Irinbi and Grrr are wonderful at world-building in this charming webtoon. They take their time to show and explain the setting and how Ailette’s world works, never making things feel boring or overwhelming to read.

Although the webtoon is categorized as a romance fantasy, most of the story focuses on the fantasy side of things, following Ailette’s journey of getting stronger physically and mentally. While I prefer seeing more romantic elements, having no explicit romance to focus on at this point works very well for the story. Even with the hints of the romance brewing between Ailette and Tesilid, to introduce more than what it has would disrupt the natural plot Irinbi has created. That’s not to say I’m not still intrigued by how the romance will play out. Considering I found myself more invested in the action and fantasy elements, it’s a testament to how well-crafted the story is. It feels just as fulfilling watching Ailette grow her character from a mistreated side character into a respected sword-wielding aura master as it would watching her find love.

Something that I find unique to the story is how it involves multiple gods in charge of the novel’s universe, with Ailette quickly becoming who they look after. The interactions between the gods and Ailette are among my favorite parts of the story, as they are hilariously like parents who dote over their child. But it’s not always fun and games, as these gods help Ailette gain more power and skills. Her “level-ups” in powers throughout the story are very well done because it never feels like Ailette becomes OP. Compared to other people she is strong, but the demons and challenges she faces always get stronger. Even with all her power, there’s tension in the story because you can never be sure if she’ll make it out in one piece. This actually makes me nervous for the likely future when she and Tesilid must fight the demon lord.

If there’s one downside to the webtoon, it is how Tesilid’s presence seems very low for the story’s supposed male lead. But despite him not having much of a spotlight, he is still an intriguing character to follow. Irinbi created a male lead who isn’t just a boring holy knight character with divine powers and will one day save the world. The story shows how Tesilid’s divine powers seem like both a blessing and a curse. When you compare his skills and situations to Ailette, he seems like the yin to her yang in the novel’s universe. But with how chaotic the story is, it keeps you guessing about where it will lead their relationship.

Final Thoughts

While Isekai webtoons can be a hit or a miss, “The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine” is a definite hit. It’s a lighthearted read with a unique mix of humorous and occasionally dark moments. Following Ailette’s growth has been a fun ride that’s only getting more exciting from here. My anticipation is high for seeing Ailette and Tesilid at their peak, and I can’t wait to see how the webtoon unfolds.
